The Lower Kennebec Regional Land Trust, with support from The Nature Conservancy, is pleased to offer its Fall 2008 lecture series,

Quality of Place: Contributions of the Kennebec Estuary. Open to the public and cost-free, the series explores the economic and environmental riches of the Kennebec Estuary through thought-provoking speakers and panel discussions. Join us to discover how the estuary’s many assets align our region with the recommendations of the Governor’s Council on Maine’s Quality of Place.

 October 9 –The Kennebec Estuary: What do we ask of it?
A presentation on the Kennebec Estuary as a Quality Place, followed by a slideshow of captivating images illustrating the assets of the estuary.

Speaker: Eleanor Kinney, Governor’s Council on Maine’s Quality of Place

November 13- The Kennebec Estuary: How does it contribute to our Economy?
A presentation and discussion on valuing the ecosystem services provided by the Kennebec Estuary, and how these resources contribute to our economy and quality of life.

Speaker: Michael LeVert, Economist, Maine State Planning Office

Panel: Trevor Hunt, Bath Water District, Mike Fear, Main Street Bath, Dick Lemont, Phippsburg Shellfish Commission

December 4– Quality of Place: Health and Sustainability?
A presentation of The State of the Kennebec Estuary, a research project contracted by the Kennebec Estuary Collaboration. This report assesses current ecological conditions of the estuary and identifies key challenges and opportunities for conservation of this unique system.

The Lower Kennebec Regional Land Trust was established in 1989 as a membership supported, non-profit conservation land trust dedicated to protecting the open space and natural environment of the lower Kennebec River watershed in Maine. Working with private land owners, conservation groups and government agencies, we have helped to protect over 2,250 acres of natural habitat.
